Things are about to get very busy for The Stanfields.

The Halifax-based band that proves Stan Rogers could have been a heavy rocker has finally completed its debut album. And while many people are eager to get their hands on a copy of Vanguard of the Young and Reckless, the band isn’t taking any time to reflect on finally getting to this point.

On the heels of a set on the Halifax Common last week where they opened for, among others, Weezer and the Black Eyed Pees, The Stanfields will be in Yarmouth Friday to play the Red Knight with opening act Rain Over St. Ambrose. Things get underway at 10:30 p.m. and cover is $10.

Craig Eugene Harris, the band’s bassist and a Yarmouth native, says the group is excited about the album.

“It’s a good debut effort,” he says. “It kind of speaks loudly about who we are and what we’re doing.”

The Stanfields have been playing and touring their material for more than year. With their debut offering only being released now comes the danger that material on the album won’t feel fresh or new to people who have already seen them live.

But Harris says that shouldn’t be a problem. Some of the songs on the album were written just before or during the time in the studio while others, that could be more familiar with people who’ve seen the band, evolved during the recording process.

“I think that kind of makes a neat contrast (between) actually listening to the record and going to see the live show, which are two totally different things,” says Harris.

“A lot of the songs were well rehearsed in pre-production. We had a good idea of what we wanted to do in the studio . . . It makes it new and exciting for us and the listeners.”

With the album finally out, the band’s focus shifts to supporting the album.

Harris says an album release show in Halifax is scheduled for the end of August and they are in the process of making plans for a fall tour. There are also other tentative plans, although Harris says the band is keeping those cards close to the chest right now.

“There’s a lot of exciting things coming down the pipe and official announcements are coming out in late summer/early fall so I can’t say anything,” he says with a not-so-sinister laugh.

“People will just have to stay tuned and check it all out.”
