A new twist on house tours raised $2,500 for the Yarmouth County Historical Society.

Five property owners opened their homes for the Amazing Yarmouth County House Tour on Aug. 21

Bruce Bishop, director of the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, says 157 people bought “passports” at $20/each.

The summer event was appreciated just as much, if not even more, than the Christmas house tours held in the past.

“Everyone loved the idea…no winter boots and coats to remove; great driving conditions – and of course, we had brilliant weather all day and evening,” said Bishop.

Each property was admired for its different attributes he added.

“There were the unique gardens and comfort of the Sanders home and the Elm Street residence, complete with guitar player… the spaciousness and exciting work being done at the Churchill Mansion, the art gallery feel of the Pressburger home and its ocean view…and of course, the history captured in the Pelton-Fuller House,” he said.

Visitors were treated to refreshments after the tour at tables set up on the lawn between the Pelton-Fuller House and the museum.

“It was so nice to see locals and tourists alike take the afternoon to relax and see different parts of our beautiful county in the summertime,” said Bishop.

He says he would like to hear from any homeowners who feel they have a distinctive property they would like to exhibit next year.

“They’d be helping the Yarmouth County Historical Society at the same time,” said Bishop.

All proceeds are being directed to the annual operating costs of the museum and to the endowment fund of the Pelton-Fuller House.
