“Before the screaming in his ears and the concussion of the shell, he
was a man moving like a terrible machine. But now he stood still and
silent regarding sa mère, so close he could reach out and touch her
arm.”
Thus begins the story of Leonce, a young man from Pubnico who enlisted
in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force in August 1915. The
story is loosely based on Leo Z. d’Entremont of Middle East Pubnico
who was killed in action on or around June 5, 1915 in Belgium.
Written and researched by Nicole d’Entremont, Leo d’Entremont’s niece,
the story will be read Aug. 17 at the Musee acadien at 7 p.m.
Nicole d’Entremont lives and teaches in Maine and summers at her
family home in Middle East Pubnico. She is the author of the recently
published novel City of Belief available on Amazon.
Author to give reading at Musée acadien
