At least 16 artists and 35 works are featured, including a few new arrivals like self-taught Gail Smith who has an an oil painting of Brier Island Light and a portrait that she says was inspired by one of her teachers.
Others include Elizabeth Manuge with an interesting watercolour interpretation of geese on a roadmap. Angelina Comeau uses alcohol inks on photo paper to create art with a luminescent quality.
Noella DeMille’s graphite sketches are of beautifully detailed birdlife. Ruth Rideout’s latest work features soft tones and sunlight sparkling on the water beside five dories pulled up on a gravel beach.
Graphite and coloured pencils are Brian Amirault’s choice of medium for the wildlife he’s captured for this show.
YAS member Virginia Stoddard, who hung the show with Dan Earle, observed that realism artist Ann Marie Clow has gravitated towards doing larger abstracts recently.
“They seem quite spiritual… like she’s interpreting feelings and emotions,” said Stoddard.
Other members of the Art Society who have work on display include: Father Maurice LeBlanc, Ivan Blades, Elizabeth Manuge, David Cain, Gail 0. Smith, Betha Christie, Dan Earle, Mariette Amirault, Imelda Currans and Angelina Comeau
The art show will continue until May 28.
