D'Eon does it again: Dwight makes it to the Top 8

He did it again.

Dwight d’Eon easily coasted through another round of Canadian Idol this week, meaning the West Pubnico singer will be back on stage next week as part of the Idol Top 8.

The theme of next week’s performance show will be unplugged and competitors on the show will get to work with Grammy winner Enrique Iglesias.

On Monday night d’Eon had performed the Guess Who’s ‘Undun’ during the music of the 60s show. The jazz, lounge-like performance was a departure from what audiences have been seeing out of d’Eon on the show, who has the reputation of being a rocker on the show, although early on in this experience d’Eon did say he would try to show he can be a multi-dimensional performer.

D’Eon had good reviews from the judges this week, including Sass Jordan who up until this week hasn’t been a big fan of d’Eon’s singing.

Results nights are always filled with a lot of tension and suspense as host Ben Mulroney announces who is safe and who is in the bottom three. For his second consecutive week since making the Top 10, d’Eon was not in the bottom group.

Eliminated from the show after receiving the fewest votes from across the country was Khalila Glanville, who, the night before, the judges had said had given her strongest Idol performance.

During Tuesday night’s results show telecast, footage was aired of the Idol competitors visiting Ronald McDonald House in London, Ontario. In his Idol blog after visiting the house and the sick children staying there, d’Eon commented that he realized how “idiotic” he’s been lately. “Stressing out over song choice, performances and other such trivial things is so pointless when you see what real struggles and real courage is,” he said in his Idol blog. “The kids who are fighting everyday for the chance at another day are the real heroes. I can’t begin to describe how great it was to meet all of (them) that day. It was a truly touching and eye-opening experience.”

D’Eon and the other Idol’s performed and have recorded a version of Amanda Marshall’s “Believe in You” as the first Idol single. Dedicated to sick children across the country, people can download the song, with the proceeds going towards building a family retreat in Vancouver for clients of Ronald McDonald house – a project taken on by Canadian Idol this season.

Meanwhile, d’Eon will be back on stage Monday night for the Top 8 performance night and will learn his fate the following night on the results show.
