The fall season opens at Saint Bernard on Sunday Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. with a program entitled ‘Lost in Venice.’ Performed by Tempest Baroque Ensemble, under the direction of David Greenberg, the program invites the audience to find out what music sounded like in Baroque-period Venice by sampling works from a wide range of Venetian composers of that period. The main attraction is Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, with works by Monteverdi, Albinoni, Marcello, and Gabrieli , among others, providing background and context. Greenberg says that musical rhetoric is vital to bringing baroque music to life- each musical ‘word’ must be full of emotional persuasion. None better than Tempest Baroque Ensemble to do this. Greenberg is known as both a consummate baroque violinist and an impassioned folk-fiddler. This program of exhilarating and fiery music, is played by this group of musicians from Symphony Nova Scotia. .
Musique Saint- Bernard is a classical music series , presented in the historic and acoustically extraordinary church at Saint Bernard , supported by community sponsorships, Heritage Canada and the Department of Tourism Culture and Heritage.
