During 2009, there were close to 16,000 theatre-goers and plans are already well underway for 2010 performances.
“Next year is shaping up really, really good,” said Fevens.
“First of all we have eight local productions scheduled already,” she said.
These include the “Dark Tale Trilogy” by Randy Muise – “Dracula” (February), “Frankenstein” (July) and “Dr. Jekyll, Mr.Hyde” (October).
“Beauty and the Beast Junior” is tentatively planned for April, and in June Fevens will be working with the ever-popular farce actors in “Cheat, Lie and Genuflect”.
“We have so much fun doing those,” said Fevens.
Wilfred Allan will be trying his hand at directing with “Our Town”, in August.
All of the above will create a sort of summer theatre says Fevens.
“Summer’s usually very, very slow for us. People are out to their cottages and away on vacation. This year we’re going to attempt the summer theatre and see how it works. If it’s there, will people take advantage of it? This will tell us,” she said.
Summer theatre camp for youth is always a popular event and early registration is encouraged as some always end up being turned away.
“It’s always chock full,” said Fevens.
In October the famous farce family will be performing for their sixth year in “There’s a Burglar in my Bed”.
They can almost read each other’s minds now,” said Fevens.
The musical, “Annie”, is being considered by Fevens and Mark Palmer for Christmas.
Outside of local productions, Derek Edwards will be performing on May 9 and Dufflebag Theatre is on schedule for Oct. 28. Harmony Bazaar is booked for Jan. 15. Tinpot is giving a fundraiser in March, and a “spectacular” family magic show in April – Michael Bourada – is on the chart.
Fevens says she’s also working on bringing the Canadian Tenors in for May. The Magpies with Stan Carew are on for March, as well as the Maritime Opera Company on June 15, and the International Guitars (Dec. 5).
Linda Coakley will be providing a six-week workshop on playwriting in the early year.
A local variety show with skits and singing - Fishermen’s Follies – will be presented later in 2010.
The Rhapsody Quintet with Daniel Matto is in the works for next year and Valdy will be performing on Sept. 29.
“We’ve got a good year coming up,” concluded Fevens.
“We haven’t even gotten into it and most often I’m always booking throughout a year, but I’m getting to a point where some months I couldn’t put anything else in it anyway because I’m so booked right now.
“It’s bigger and better,” she said of the upcoming year.
