After an introduction by Wilfred Allan, Susan Wharram and Paul Jespersen will talk about the history and future of Churchill Mansion, a property they bought last year and are extensively renovating.
Alex Blooi will discuss the Beaver River Temperance Hall and efforts he is undertaking to preserve this historic building.
A dramatic sea tale will be presented by George Snow who came to the rescue of the freighter Nelson B on Jan. 13, 1967.
Snow, after hearing that the ship had run aground that evening on Trinity Ledge, set out with his crew aboard the Howard & Roddy to assist the survivors.
“There was a wind blowing about 20 miles an hour west, and snow in the air, it wasn’t a good night,” said Snow.
The captain, his wife, two daughters, five crew and two dogs were taken from the liferaft.
“Two of the girls were dressed in fur coats with fur hats and the men, most of them had on navy-style uniforms with hats. I wondered what in the world we’d run into,” said Snow.
The rescue was the subject of a painting by Bill Crowell, which Snow now owns.
Melvin Perry will describe his fright-filled journey from the roof of Churchill Mansion to the main floor when he was a young carpenter-apprentice.
Refreshments will be provided after the presentation.
