The fundraiser, Happenings Historical, takes place at 4 p.m. each day.
For facilitator Linda Coakley, the project is a resurrection of sorts from the early 80s when she organized a teatime theatre put on by the Premier Players, her Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School students.
“We were filled to capacity at tables for four and the comments were excellent. To re-introduce tea time theatre once again, as a fund raiser for the museum, is my great pleasure,” she said.
Coakley, with support from John Sollows, Jaime Serran, Susan Winship and Barbara Hinckley, has been working with a dozen young women on Wednesday afternoons to create the production.
“The girls are learning so much and have become quite conversant in Yarmouth history bits and bites,” she said.
“All are creative writers who seem to really value what they are discovering in the archives and about the museum. There is real and palpable excitement each week in the discovery of diaries of young girls, memoirs of ship captains' wives, advertisements for goods sold long ago and much more.”
She added that the student’s writing has now begun in earnest and that it was a pleasure to watch their progress. Each girl has also chosen her own costume.
Happenings Historical is sponsored by the Nova Scotia Culture Division.
Cost for the event is $5 and reservations are required as there is a limit of 48 for each day (four at each table). Call 902-742-5539.
