Now in its 11th season, the popularity of the program has increased each year and last year played to thousands of visitors.
In an effort to lengthen the tourism season, restaurant operators have opted to now include September in the Musique de la Baie program, as visitors are increasingly staying in the region well into autumn.
Musique de la Baie is a restaurant‐music program, offering live local music six nights a week throughout the tourism region of Yarmouth & Acadian Shores.
Eight restaurants are participating in 2010 - in the communities of West Pubnico, Lower Argyle, Yarmouth, Mavillette Beach, Meteghan River, Grosses Coques, and Belliveau Cove.
The music (either in French, English or both) is always local, with regional performers, songs about the area, original compositions and Acadian ballads.
Musical instruments vary, but can include the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and even the bagpipes.
This is the second time that Musique de la Baie has expanded in as many years. In 2009, the program expanded from the Municipality of Clare (where it began 10 years prior), to include Yarmouth County. This expansion now ensures that visitors to the tourism region of Yarmouth & Acadian Shores will be able to experience local culture and music, regardless of the community they are staying in.
The full schedule for Musique de la Baie can be found online at www.musiquedelabaie.ca.
Reservations at participating restaurants are strongly recommended. Musique de la Baie is a project of the Yarmouth & Acadian Shores Tourism Association.
