Le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse is hosting an Order of Good Cheer supper, an event founded by Samuel de Champlain in 1606 to heighten the spirits of the men of Port Royal through entertainment, special meals and music.
The supper will take place on Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Servers in 17th-century costume will greet the attendees. In keeping with the theme, authentic rustic decor and candlelight will transport all to that era, organizers say. A social hour with wine and beer, along with a selection of cheeses, will start the evening.
The wine stewards will pour the wine while bread, oil and balsamic vinegar will be placed on the tables in preparation for the meal.
Servers will begin the evening with a procession of the feast, including roast duck, fish and rabbit, accompanied by root vegetables, all seasoned with fresh local herbs.
As the evening comes to a close, a blueberry dessert will be served. There also will be music and a demonstration of the Branle des sabots, a 15th-century French dance, by dance teacher Dolores d'Entremont.
