Preparations are underway for the Eastern Canadian Fisheries Exposition, which will be held in Yarmouth, N.S. on Feb. 25 and 26.

The Mariners Centre will be the backdrop for what is Canada’s longest-running commercial fishing show. Exhibitors have been registering to display their marine and commercial fishery products and services.

“Our exhibitors know that getting their products out there and meeting face-to-face with customers new and old is especially important. No other advertising does what a trade show does,” says show manager Shawn Murphy.

There will be a variety of display booths during the show, with exhibits that will include engines, lighting equipment, hydraulics, electronics, lobster traps, nets, ropes and foul weather gear. There will be booths from companies that offer services like marine insurance, legal services and boat building.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Canadian Coast Guard and provincial government agencies will be on hand to show people the latest items they have available.

There will be fishing boats and commercial vessels on display on the floor as well.

The Rodd Grand Hotel will be the setting for the opening night reception, which will also be the venue for the presentation of the Industry Achievement Awards that are presented in conjunction with the Navigator Magazine.

The Eastern Canadian Fisheries Exposition is held every two years in Yarmouth, N.S.

This event also creates good economic spin-offs for Yarmouth and the surrounding communities.

“Hosting trade shows such as this one has a very important impact on the hospitality industry in the region, and is especially beneficial to hotels, restaurants and bars, retail, transportation and other related industries” says Yarmouth Mayor Phil Mooney.

“These shows bring in travelers from the local markets and beyond, usually during a slower season and really put a spotlight on the community and its businesses.”
