West Nova MP Greg Kerr has announced federal funding for new small craft harbour development projects in Yarmouth County.

Topics :
Wedgeport , Yarmouth

He did so Thursday afternoon on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea.

The Lower Wedgeport Tuna Wharf, the Wedgepoint Wharf in Wedgeport and the Little River Harbour Wharf will receive a combined total of $690,000 in funding under the Small Craft Harbours Program. “Funding for these three projects through the federal stimulus plan is excellent news for the County of Yarmouth.” said Kerr, who announced the funding Thursday afternoon in Wedgeport. “Government investment to help complete repairs and upgrades for these wharves will stimulate the local economy.”

The investment towards the Lower Wedgeport Tuna Wharf will be used to install armour protection upgrades, which will strengthen the durability and longevity of the wharf.

The Wedgepoint Wharf will benefit from advance planning and harbour improvements, which will streamline and maximize the operation efficiency of the harbour, according to Thursday’s announcement.

The funding for the Little River Harbour Wharf will be used for basin dredging purposes, which will increase the wharf’s accessibility.
