Seafest pageant applications
Application kits are available for the 2014 Seafest pageant. They can be picked up at Ellis Print or by contacting Lynette Mullen at 881-2709. See seafestqueen.com for more information. Deadline May 2.
The Seafest Association is looking for poems on this year’s theme of Seashells and Sandcastles. While this is not a contest, some poems will be posted on the Seafest Facebook page and /or website. April 28 The Friends of the Art Gallery, Western Branch, will hold a bake sale at Scotiabank Monday, April 28, from 10 to 4 or while quantities last. They are raising money for the Children’s Art Fund, children’s programs and general programming. If you are able to contribute some baking, baked beans, preserves etc., drop it off at the Scotiabank on Monday morning between 9 and 10, or throughout the day. Hospital auxiliary meeting

Battle of the Atlantic service
May 4 The Yarmouth Branch of the Navy League of Canada and the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps #92 Chebogue (Yarmouth Sea Cadets) will take part in a Battle of the Atlantic ceremony Sunday, May 4, at the Killam Brothers wharf on Water Street.
May 4 The Pubnico Area Lions Club will be holding a breakfast on Sunday, May 4, from 8 until 10 a.m. $6. Children 12 and under half price. (Children under five eat for free.) This is the last breakfast until October.

Bottle drive fundraiser

There is a soup kitchen every second Thursday of the month at the Temple annex, 5 Bond St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free.
Bingo is held every Thursday at 7 p.m. (weather permitting) at the Lake George fire hall. Proceeds to build extension on fire hall. The Chase the Ace game is rising steadily.
Fitness classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays at Marian Hall, Albert Street (next to St. Ambrose Parish Centre). Monday – 11 a.m. Qigong (ancient form of self-healing); 11:30 Dusty Sneakers (chair stretching/strength); 12:10 p.m. yoga (slower paced, focus on deeper poses and core strength). Education class for people living with the effects of stroke, heart attack, angina, and those at risk for heart disease and stroke is offered the fourth Monday of each month, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Cancer help fund
The Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund provides financial support for travel expenses to Yarmouth town and county residents receiving cancer treatments outside the Southwest Health district. Donations may be sent to 1355 Highway 1, Wellington B5A 5A5 or call 742-3381. Memorial donations may be made at any of the Yarmouth-area funeral homes. Income tax receipts available.

Program for moms, babies

Recovery International is a support group that provides coping techniques for persons struggling with depression, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks and other mental disorders.
