The Yarmouth County Historical Society, owners and operators of the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, will host a new twist on a former fundraising tradition: The Amazing Yarmouth County House Tour.

The event will be on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 1-5 p.m., and will include five of Yarmouth County’s most noteworthy, historic or unusual private homes.

Loosely based on a reality TV show where couples race to worldwide destinations, The Amazing Yarmouth County House Tour aims for a more leisurely, laidback pace where visitors can interact with the homeowners, their houses and gardens.

“People were missing our annual Christmastime house tour,” said Susan Moores, chairperson of the Society’s ways and means committee. “We thought it would be nice to hold a similar event in the summertime when getting around by car is easier while enjoying the warm weather.”

“The homeowners were happy to oblige,” said Bruce Bishop, director of the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives. “Judith and David Sanders, Christine and Alex Pressburger, Susan Wharram and Paul Jespersen of the Churchill Mansion Inn, and Rob Mercier and Jean-François Grenier of the Amos Brown House on Elm Street, were all eager to help out the museum’s annual fundraising efforts — and we couldn’t be more pleased with the choice of wonderful homes to visit.”

Following stops in the abovementioned homes, visitors are encouraged to make their last stop at the Pelton-Fuller House, located next door to the museum, where refreshments will be served on the grounds.

“Passports” for The Amazing Yarmouth County House Tour at $20 each, are available from the Museum at 22 Collins Street (Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) or from one of the ways and means committee members. All proceeds go to the annual operating costs of the museum and to the endowment fund of the Pelton-Fuller House.
