The club held a family day outing at Port Maitland Beach in connection with Parents Place on Aug.16 with close to 60 families attending.
Children and their parents were treated to hot dogs, watermelon, sippers, and other items donated to the cause. The youngsters frolicked in the water and participated in a sand castle building competition.
President Ben Churchill says the club was only too pleased to arrange the outing.
“There’s one family that didn’t even have enough money for gas to get here,” he said.
Earlier in August the members held a fundraising breakfast at the club and raised close to $300 for the event.
Churchill said any money left over from the beach day would be distributed amongst the families.
The Chebogue River Aquatic Club has close to 70 members, with 35 boats associated with the facility.
Plans are underway to make the premises more available to the community at large, says Churchill.
“We’re quite active right now, building momentum,” he said.
