Rebecca Caine and Robert Kortgaard in concert Monday
Phantom stage star to perform Monday in Yarmouth
Rebecca Caine is a star on the world’s musical stage. She premiered the role of Christine in the Canadian production of Phantom of the Opera at Toronto’s Pantages theatre after performing in the original west end London show. She created the role of Cossette in the original staging of Les Misérables with the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in London. She has been in demand as a stage and operatic soprano for 25 years.
On Monday, Nov. 5 she will perform with pianist Robert Kortgaard at the Yarmouth County Museum. The Hear! Here! Society is joining forces with Musique Royale and the Yarmouth Rotary Club to bring this show to Yarmouth audiences. The evening show is sold out.
The Hear! Here! Society will host the Yarmouth Rotary Club’s regular weekly lunch meeting at the Yarmouth County Museum on Nov. 5, providing a boxed lunch for Rotary members and their guests. Instead of a guest speaker, club members will enjoy a sampling of songs from the evening concert to come. In return, they are helping to sponsor the performance.
Said Hear! Here! Society co-chair Joan Semple, “We are very limited in the number of tickets we can sell and that affects our bottom line. If we were to cover the true costs of presenting this calibre of entertainment, we would have to charge $50 a ticket. That puts it out of reach of a lot of our patrons.”
Kortgaard completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Julliard School in New York City, and furthered his musical studies in Italy and England. He has performed as a soloist with major Canadian orchestras and has given recitals around the world.
Caine was born in Toronto and studied at the Guildhall School of Music, London. Her career has been divided between opera and musical theatre.
At the evening concert Caine will sample some of the works of British leading ladies of the west end stage. Highlights include songs from some of her favourite roles including Les Misérables and Phantom.
Both shows are now sold out.
