By Carla Allen THE VANGUARD NovaNewsNow.com An event designed for those interested in buying local food and establishing a network to make this possible will take place on Friday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Yarmouth Lions Club at 87 Parade St.

Topics :
Tri-County Local Food System , Creative Tides Consulting

Organizers for the Tri-County Local Food System “exploring the possibilities together” forum say the purpose of the day is to explore local food systems, and to connect people who have ideas about this topic and a sustainable food supply.

The initiative is partially funded by Public Health, and includes representatives from several local community groups, businesses, farmers and others involved in the food industry.

Public Health nutritionist Shelley Wilson is a member of the organizing committee. She’s hoping the forum serves as a means of sharing information. “There could be a farmer frustrated because he can’t get his produce into a local grocery store but meanwhile there might be someone across the table telling him why that is. So there’s an education component that happens, a cross-pollination. They are educating themselves,” she said.

Michelle Sutherland, owner of Creative Tides Consulting and facilitator for the event says the goal is to bring people who are passionate about the issue or at least realize it’s an issue and are raising questions. “How do you ignite that passion into action?” is one of the questions she hopes to have answered at the end of the day.

The committee is nailing down the final details for the event, which includes a lunch catered by Old World Bakery.

Registration is free but required with Ruthie Allen Hamilton by Feb. 13 at 902-749-1994 or email thisistheday@ns.sympatico.ca.
