The weather cooperated and enthusiasm was high when a field of 39 teams teed off at the 5th anniversary of the Jody Shelley Golf Fore Health held recently at the West Pubnico Golf and Country Club. At the end of the day over $33,000 was raised towards the purchase of hospital equipment for the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

Jody Shelley, a former Yarmouth resident and forward with the NHL San Jose Sharks, expressed thanks to the tournament organizers, sponsors, volunteers, players, and the host club for staging the event each year. It’s clear from his whole-hearted involvement that Shelley views the event as a “great opportunity to give back to the community”.

Between the annual Spring Gala and the Jody Shelley Golf Fore Health, just over $75,000 has been raised by the Foundation for hospital equipment purchases this year.

Proceeds from last years’ events were directed towards a new district cancer center. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new cancer center will take place at the hospital within the next few weeks.

Special events such as golf and gala, along with the up-coming annual appeal are just a few of the ways the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation fulfills its mission to support and enhance our hospital as a community and regional center of excellence in health care.
