South West Health has announced changes to its H1N1 flu shot clinics planned for this week.

Due to a national shortage of vaccine, these clinics will only be available to people who have been identified as belonging to the high-risk groups at greatest risk of developing complications from H1N1.

These people are: -- Pregnant women and women up to 4 weeks postpartum -- All children aged 6 months to 59 months -- People living in First Nations communities

South West Health says at this time it does not have vaccine available for children’s parents, caregivers or older siblings. The health district will offer more clinics as vaccine becomes available.

NOTE: South West Health staff who are in the priority group for health care workers will receive information on when/where vaccine will be available.

South West Health community H1N1 Flu Shot Clinics next week for priority high risk groups only will be at the following locations: •Yarmouth Lion’s Club Hall: Monday, Nov. 2 from 12pm to 7pm •Shelburne Fire Hall: Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 12pm to 7pm •Saulnierville Legion: Thursday, Nov. 5 from 12pm to 7pm

Long waits can be difficult, especially for pregnant women and young children. Plan ahead and be prepared for a long lineup. Dress warmly, and consider bringing snacks, drinks and perhaps a folding chair. REMEMBER, bring your Health Card.

The health district says the walk-in clinics that had been planned at Harbour South Health Clinic, Main Street Yarmouth have been postponed.

Community flu shot clinic schedules will be assessed each week and posted on the South West Health website: www.swndha.nshealth.ca
