A Connecticut physician was rescued July 28 in the Bay of Fundy after being overcome by engine fumes in his 39-foot sailboat.
The physician and his wife, who is a nurse, were motor-sailing the yawl ‘Abaco’ near Sanford, Yarmouth County, when the boat’s diesel exhaust ruptured, according to a report by the Coast Guard station at Westport.
Attempted repairs in the engine compartment led to the physician losing consciousness, and his wife issued a distress call.
The man regained consciousness shortly before the Coast Guard cutter arrived with a rescue specialist. The vessel was towed to Yarmouth.
Names of the couple were not released.
