Man dies following collision on Highway 101 on Wednesday

A 43-year-old Digby County man has died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 101 on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The name of the man was not been released by the RCMP at the request of the family.

The collision occurred at the Hebron exit on the highway and involved a westbound car and an eastbound transport truck. The RCMP, firefighters and paramedics responded and the Jaws of Life had to be used to remove the driver from the car. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

He was transported to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries. He died at the hospital.

The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

The RCMP are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.

The collision occurred around the supper hour. A section of the highway was closed for several hours last evening, with motorists still being directed at 9 p.m. to take an alternate travel route.
