The Gates Computer Lab at the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Library in Yarmouth will offer a variety of computer courses in April with a focus on Facebook, Flickr and YouTube. Listed below are the courses being offered beginning Tuesday, April 14:
Introduction to Microsoft Word
Tuesday, April 14 and Thursday, April 16, 2 to 4 p.m.
This is a two-part introductory course to Microsoft Word. Come and learn the basics of word processing. Topics will include formatting text, adding borders, inserting pictures and clipart, and more. Register ahead of time.
File Management Basics
Friday, April 17, 2 to 4 p.m.
This is a two-hour session about the basics of file management. Topics covered will include how to create and save files, how to locate lost files, creating folders, moving files and folders and deleting files. Register ahead of time.
Introduction to Facebook
Tuesday, April 21, 2 to 4 p.m.
This is a two-hour session about the Internet Web site Facebook. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, share photos, links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. Participants will learn how to access and use this social networking site.
Introduction to Flickr
Thursday, April 23, 2 to 4 p.m.
This is a two-hour session covering the Internet Web site Flickr. Flickr is a popular photo-sharing and hosting service with advanced and powerful features. You can share and host hundreds of your own pictures on Flickr for free. Prerequisite: Participants must have an understanding of basic Internet use and have the ability to manage files.
Introduction to YouTube
Wednesday, April 29, 2 to 4 p.m.
This two-hour session is all about the Internet Web site YouTube. YouTube is a free online video streaming service that allows anyone to view and share videos that have been uploaded by their members.
