At its regular monthly council meeting Tuesday the municipality passed a motion to bring the matter to the CRTC.
The affected villages include Wedgeport, Quinan, Pubnico, Kemptville, North Kempt and Comeau’s Hill, according to an official with the municipality’s Emergency Measures Organization.
In an email addressed to Argyle Warden d’Entremont – a message that was part of the agenda package for Tuesday’s council session – John Robert Levac of Argyle’s EMO said the issue is a serious one.
“We view this as an Emergency Measure issue,” he wrote. “This poses a potential threat to our constituents, cellular access is not a luxury in 2010. Many people as well as emergency agencies rely on this access.”
He asked the municipality to address the matter with Bell Aliant on behalf of Argyle EMO.
Councillor Charles LeBlanc indicated during Tuesday’s meeting that cellular coverage has been a problem in the Wedgeport area – which he represents on council – for 10 years or so and that efforts to rectify the situation by contacting the service provider have failed.
He made the motion to write to the CRTC.
