Pictou County Military Museum

Features: Information and artifacts relating to the contributions of Pictou County Military personnel in all aspects of the Canadian Forces.

Seafoam Woodturning Studio

Features: Watch as wood is transformed into unique one-of- kind carvings by a master woodturner.

Address: Route 6, Seafoam.

Hours: Mon. to Fri., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by chance or appointment.

Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame

Features: The museum house more than 2,000 artifacts, scrapbooks, video library and medals in more than 30 categories of sports.

Hours: Mon. to Fri., 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m. to noon.

Pictou County Historical Society Carmichael-Stewart House

Features: A late Victorian home with original hardwood floors, beautiful stained glass windows and houses an extensive photo collection, Trenton Glassware, an amazing clothing collection and many other unique Pictou County treasures.

Hours: Mon. to Sat., 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Northumberland Fisheries Museum

Features: this museum preserves an important coastal way-of-life detailing many aspects of the fishing industry past, present and future. It is located on three sites and also includes a lighthouse museum and lobster hatchery.

Address: 71 Front Street, Pictou

Hours: Mon. to Sat., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Lighthouse Museum, Mon. to Sat., noon to 6 p.m.

Cost: Small admission charged and includes access to all three sites.

Museum of Industry

Features: a permanent exhibit explaining industrial technology, history of the worker and the worker's family and community. The collection includes some 14,000 artifacts and displays are interactive.

Address: 147 North Foord Street, Stellarton.

Hours: May 1 to Oct. 31, Mon. to Sat., 9am to 5pm; Sun. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: Adults, $8; children age six to 17, $3.50; children under age five, free; seniors age 65 years and over, $4.75; family, $16.50 (two adults and their children under age 18)

Grohmann Knives

Features: see award-winning knives being made using time-honoured old world traditions of handcrafted precision and care.

Address: Water Street, Pictou

Hours: Mon. to Fri. 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Minimum four adults required per tour and children age 16 and under must have adult supervision)

Cost: Free admission

Living history tours- ships and spirits

Features: a guided walking tour along the Sampson Trail, highlighting he ships and spirits of the historic New Glasgow harbour.

Hours: Book in advance, flexible hours, day and evening tours.

Cost: $7 per person, or group rates available.

Loch Broom Log Church

Features: a replica of the first church built in Pictou County.

Address: from Hwy 104, Exit 20, Rte. 4.

Hours: (STC) July 2 to Aug. 31, Tues. to Sat., 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun., noon to 5 p.m.

Alma Gardens

Features: Numerous viewing gardens and two greenhouses on a two-acre property with a large duck pond and gazebo.

Barney's River Station School Museum

Featuring: a pre-confederation building, this typical rural one-room school was the centre of learning and community activity for many generations.

Hours: July 1 to Aug. 28, Tues. to Sat. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun., noon to 5 p.m.

Crombie House

Features: 19th and 20th -century Canadian art

Address: Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow.

Hours: July 1 to Aug. 31, Wed. only, guided tours at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Lismore Sheep Farm

Features: a working sheep farm with interpretive displays and on-site wool shop. See working Border Collies, and two Great Pyreneese guard dogs.

Hours: Seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: adults, $1; children $0.50; family, $3.

McCulloch House Museum

Features: interactive displays about ships, kilts, and the changing face of Pictou

Address: 100 Old Haliburton Road, Pictou

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: Adults, $3; Children, $2; Family, $7; seniors, $2.

Parks

Trenton Steeltown Park- Free access

Facilities: Six-kilometers of walking trails winding through 565 acres of century-old coniferous trees; a two-kilometer mountain bike trail; feed ducks along the shore; glimpse wildlife in their natural habitat; fish trout from stocked ponds; swim 3,000 square-foot swimming pool, playground, picnic tables, grassy activity area. Hourly swims cost $3 per person; family, $9; day pass, $7 per person or $21 per family.

Other free services on Trenton's Main Street: tennis court, skateboard park, ball field.

Hopewell Area, park and Footbridge

Facilities: a scenic drive to a municipal heritage site and one of the last surviving footbridges in North America.

Address: TCH 104 Exit 24 and south on 374 out of Stellarton.

Lansdowne Outdoor Recreational Development Association

Designed to accommodate the needs of the disabled and seniors, however everyone is welcome to enjoy the park, nestled in more than 300 acres of lush forest. This recreational/wilderness park has much to offer besides nature, such as tenting, Bocce Courts and plenty of picnic tables, gazebos and seating to enjoy a barbeque or a picnic for any size group. Fishing from stocked ponds is only reserved as a specialty for seniors and disabled.

Greenhill Provincial Park

Facilities: picnic tables, incredible view, pit toilets.
