Grand opening

July 21

The Yarmouth Area Cancer Support Group will attend the grand opening of the South West Health Cancer Centre to be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, 4th Floor, Building C. The group will gather following the opening in the meeting room of the centre. All those with cancer and their caregivers/loved ones are invited to attend. Meeting

July 15

The monthly meeting of the Yarmouth Town and County Sports Heritage Association will be held Thursday, July 15 at 7 p.m. in the sport museum on Main Street.

Open house

July 16

There will be an open house at Sunset Terrace, 8 James St., on July 16 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Country music

July 17

There will be a country music evening and dance at Club

Acadien, Ste Anne du Ruisseau, Friday, July 17, from 7:30 to 11 p.m.

Music by Delbert Bourque and friends and Suzette Belliveau. Donations at door.

Equestrian event

July 18-19

The Tri-County Equestrian Club will be hosting an open show circuit at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre on July 18-19. (Early bird sweepstakes on the 17th.) Prize money. English and western riders. Info: Anita Dunn 902-643-2154.

Yard sale

July 18

There will be a yard sale on the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives’ grounds, 22 Collins St., on July 18 (9 a.m. – no early birds.) One year’s worth of donated items from homes, businesses and stores. Antiques, plants, homebaked goods, jewellery, books and CDs, and more. Proceeds to the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives.

Seafest service

July 19

The annual Seafest ecumenical service will be held on the grounds of Villa St Joseph-du-Lac on July 19 at 7 p.m. Refreshments to follow. Free-will offering.

Musical evening

July 19

There will be a musical evening with Delbert and Friends at the Twin Village Social Club in Amirault’s Hill on Sunday, July 19, at 7 p.m. $8 person. Proceeds for Festival d’la Barge.

Workshop

July 20

There will be a free workshop to help women look good and feel better during and after their cancer treatment on

Monday, July 20, at the Yarmouth hospital in the Gordon Wood Room from 1- 3 p.m.

Antiques appraisals

July 20 & 21

The Antique Appraisers’ Road Show, will be held in the Yarmouth County Museum’s education wing, 22 Collins St., on July 20 and 21 from 2– 6 p.m.

First come, first served. Have one antique verbally appraised ($10 fee, or three for $20) by three appraisers from Halifax. Info: Bruce Bishop , 902-742-5539.

Armchair travel

Barb and Eric Ruff (former curator at the museum) will present a photo-show and talk about their barging adventures in England in the Yarmouth County Museum’s education wing July 23 at 3 p.m.

Museum fashions

July 24

Costumes coordinator Susan Winship shows and talks about the array of fashions from the 1960s during a presentation at the Yarmouth County Museum on July 24 at 3 p.m.

Turkey supper

July 25

There will be a turkey supper at the Twin Village Social Club in Amirault’s Hill on Saturday, July 25, at 4 p.m. $10 a person. Proceeds for Festival d’la Barge.

Workshop

July 25

There will be a children’s pirates workshop in the

Yarmouth County Museum’s education wing, 22 Collins St. on July 25. Learn how to make a sailor’s valentine and your own treasure maps. No admission. For more information: Nadine Gates 902-742-539.

High school reunion

July 31

A 30-year reunion for the Yarmouth high school’s class of 1979 is planned for Rudder’s restaurant in Yarmouth on July 31 starting at 6 p.m. Important to confirm attendance by July 18: black@eastlink.ca or 902-742-3931.

Hall of Fame applications

Applications forms to nominate someone for consideration to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame are now available at the Sports Museum on Main Street. Nominations should be in by Sept. 30. Also the Sports Hall of Fame 2010 calendars are now on sale at Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave and the Hall of Fame at 435 Main St.

Dragon boat fun nights

Dragon boat fun nights will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings all summer long at the Lake Milo Aquatic Club at 6 p.m.

Anyone 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Support group

Recovery International, a support group that provides coping techniques for those struggling with depression, anxiety phobias, panic attacks and other mental disorders meets on Mondays (except holidays) at 7 p.m. at 32 Cliff St., at the rear of Vaughan Square at the top of the ramp. Mentors needed

Veterans Association

Farmers Market at Canadian Tire parking lot every Saturday from

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vegetables, beef, chicken, pork, bread and

other home made goods, including jams jellies, dog treats etc.
