A familiar reminder that the Christmas season is here is the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.

Topics :
Salvation Army , Yarmouth County Ministerial , Yarmouth , Halifax

The 2009 campaign for the Yarmouth area officially began with a kickoff event Nov. 28 at the Yarmouth Mall.

Speakers for the occasion included Major Peter Rowe of the Salvation Army in Yarmouth and Major Morris Vincent, area commander – southern region, from the Salvation Army’s Maritime divisional headquarters in Halifax.

They noted the importance of the campaign in helping people in need.

They expressed their appreciation to Yarmouth-area residents for the way they have supported the Salvation Army before.

Yarmouth Mayor Phil Mooney, another of those invited to speak during the Red Kettle kickoff, spoke similarly of the importance of the campaign and of the need to help the less fortunate.

The short ceremony included remarks from Rev. Wayne Johnson, who brought greetings on behalf of the Yarmouth County Ministerial, and Lori Bourque, who was representing the Yarmouth Mall.

The event included a prayer from Major Wanda Vincent of the Salvation Army and the singing of Silent Night.

Red Kettles have been set up at several Yarmouth locations, including the mall.
