The winners in the Canadian Community Newspapers Association’s (CCNA) 2010 competition were announced this week.
Two-hundred-fifty-five newspapers submitted 2,551 entries this year from works published in 2009. Entries were reviewed by 81 peer judges.
The Yarmouth Vanguard earned a Blue Ribbon in its circulation group in the general excellence category.
Editor Fred A Hatfield received second in the best feature photo category for his shot of the Seafest Grand Banks Mackerel Toss.
Vanguard reporter Carla Allen received third for best feature series. Allen wrote a four-part series on depression.
The CCNA presents awards to those who place in the top three in the various categories. This year the awards will be presented at a gala on Thursday, May 13, in Toronto, Ontario.
Transcontinental Nova Scotia weeklies managed 10 awards in total.
