“The buzz is on and the exciting ideas are rolling,” she said.
Some of the objectives for the workshop included building enthusiasm; providing an opportunity for networking and collaborating; a chance to initiate and begin implementing projects; awareness of the available support and to have fun together as a community.
At least two-dozen community members attended to participate in the round-table discussion groups.
Ideas were generated for all the municipalities including the Town of Yarmouth and Argyle, as well as events to be hosted in individual villages.
Some of the many ideas explored included the organization of a winter encampment to show the hardships encountered during that first winter; historical suppers in period costume with period foods; drumming ceremonies; restoring and preserving historic buildings, and building community parks.
Each of the participants received a 250th Project Planning 101 toolkit. The kit includes a Community Project Work Sheet, check lists, information about the volunteer protection act, event media forms as well as information on insurance and possible funding resources. The materials will be available on the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth website shortly.
“The next meeting of the minds will take place in early June for all the participants who attended on March 6th and they have been requested to bring along two more community members each for this session,” said Hill-Bojarski.
The next workshop will allow time to review progress and work on new ideas. Volunteers are requested to read the Vanguard for the date and details of the follow up. New information will also be posted on the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth website.
“Let’s get excited about celebrating community together in 2011,” said Hill-Bojarski.
