“We’ll probably put some of it towards lobsters for the lobster-eating contest,” said Smith.
“Also entertainment, and advertising.”
The funding was announced by MP Greg Kerr on Friday on behalf of James Moore, the minister of Canadian heritage and official languages.
“I am pleased to announce this funding for the Seafest Association’s festival this year,” said Kerr.
“Yarmouth is full of great history and culture, and I am glad that our government is helping the community to celebrate that through support for this festival.”
This year’s Seafest, Lobster Festival and Parade of Lights will take place from July 14 to July 24.
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. The program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
