The unemployment rate reported for the month of June was the highest for the month since 1998. At the same time, the participation rate - the percentage of people working or looking for work compared to the population aged 15 and over - increased by 0.1 percentage points to 62.4 per cent.
By comparison, the unemployment rate in June 2010 for Nova Scotia was 8.8 per cent and for Canada was 7.9 per cent, the first time the rate has been below the 8 per cent mark since January 2009.
