Yarmouth MLA and Liberal economic development critic Zach Churchill is encouraged by support from the Mayor of Portland and the Governor of Maine to renew the international link between Yarmouth and Maine.

Churchill met with both politicians while in Portland this week.

"The Mayor and Governor consider the loss of the ferry a blow to the city and the State," said Churchill.  "The people of Maine made a substantial investment in docking facilities in Portland and would like to see that infrastructure integrated into a new service.”

Churchill has vowed to work across political party lines and borders to bring back a ferry service between Yarmouth and Maine.  He was given support by the Mayor of Portland.

"The City of Portland would welcome the restoration of ferry service with our Canadian counterpart in Nova Scotia," stated Portland Mayor Nicholas M. Mavodones. "For decades, this service has been an integral part of both our economies and I look forward to working with Yarmouth leaders to see it return."

Churchill is encouraged by the response from Maine officials and will continue to work with leaders in both Yarmouth and Maine who share the goal of a ferry link.

"Both regions are now experiencing firsthand the damage caused by the loss of the ferry service. We must work together to re-establish this vital link."

Love to hear about all the good things Zach is doing for Yarmouth already. What a great choice we made electing this good man for our MLA!
