The first Canada Day fireworks show in years will take place on Yarmouth's waterfront, at dusk on July 1. The Town of Yarmouth is supplementing funds received through a grant from Canada Heritage for the event. Organizers are also celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee this year for her 60 years of reign.


To start the day, a pancake breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. at Killam's Wharf in support of the Yarmouth Town & County Crime Prevention Association.

Opening ceremonies at the waterfront begin at noon with the introduction of the 2012 Seafest Royal Party, free healthy snack packs, face painting and birthday cake.

Bands begin playing at 1 p.m. and continue throughout the day until 11 p.m.

The Tri County Multicultural Festival launches its expanded event (from July 1-8) on Canada Day with a fashion show taking place from 4 to 5 p.m.

Waterfront Band Line Up:

1-2 p.m. Al Robicheau

2-3 p.m. Vic & The Boys

3-4 p.m. Over & Over

4-5 p.m. Multi-cultural Fashion Show

5-6 p.m. Failing Health

6-7 p.m. The Acadians

7-8 p.m. Carl & Phil

8-9 p.m. Salem Road

9-10 p.m. Julian Babin

10-11 p.m. TBA

A Canada Day festival will be held at the Yarmouth South Playground from noon - 5 p.m. Free activities include the annual Penny Carnival with games, and prizes drawn at 4 p.m. These include a new bike and summer equipment (sports, kites, games, skateboard, and more.)  

 Kidz Act $treet Kidz, Anthony Dulong, and Connie Saulnier will be performing.

Apples and granola bars will be distributed, along with Canada Day cake at 3:30 p.m. There will also be a BBQ with hot dogs offered at the festival (a fundraiser for SOMORE).

Door prizes for parents will be part of the festivities.

In West Pubnico, Canada Day events include:

Unisson will be performing at the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos & Centre de Recherche after a ceremonial raising of the flag at 1 p.m.  Art work will be on display by students of École Pubnico-Ouest on the theme: Celebrating our culture and heritage. At 3 p.m. there will be a walk to the Village historique acadien de la Nouvellle-Écosse.

At Le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse from 4 – 6 p.m., there will be games and toys of years ago (for children), balloons and face painting, and singing of the national anthem, followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

Unisson (Acadian music) will be providing entertainment at the amphitheatre from 5 – 6 p.m. Canteen goods are available (soup, hot dogs, chips and soft drinks).

 A special event, from 7 – 9 p.m., will be a visit from the athletes and coaches of Les Jeux de l’Acadie. Between 1200-1400 participants will tour the site and take part in entertainment at the amphitheatre, including music and dance.
