The festival was held in conjunction with 250th anniversary celebrations during July and August.
Mops were chosen as the decorating base as they were essential for swabbing the decks of vessels during the days of sail.
Organizers are hoping for even more entries as the second annual Moppies Festival gets underway. For those who need a little creative encouragement there’s help available.
Volunteer coordinator Madeleine Daues encourages participants to have fun with their creations.
“Folks can create their moppies in this year's Seafest theme of 'Mermaids & Mariners' or what/whoever their favourite characters may be,” she said.
The committee is also looking for volunteers that want to help promote the festival in another manner.
“We initially thought of a moppies float for the Seafest parade but decided it may be more fun to have some real live moppies walking the mile instead, so we're sending the invitation out,” she said.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Seafest office in the Yarmouth Mall or downloaded from www.Moppiesfestival.com
Judging will take place on July 16/17 with moppies being judged on creativity, originality and effort. Winners will be announced July 28 on the waterfront at the Coal Shed.
Daues says a Facebook page has been set up under 2nd Annual Moppie Festival.
“So folks can 'talk it up' amongst themselves,” she said.
The website will also feature photos from last year’s Moppies Festival.
