The Town of Yarmouth has a new fire chief.
The town announced on Aug. 14 that Shawn Ripley of Kentville has accepted the position of fire chief for the Town of Yarmouth. Ripley replaces Ken Kelly who retired from the position earlier this year after 24 years of service.
Ripley brings with him 32 years of firefighting experience. During his time with the Kentville Fire Department, he held all officer positions from Lieutenant, to Captain, Deputy Chief and since 1996 he has served as the Fire Chief for the Town of Kentville and surrounding communities.
Ripley will commence his duties as Chief on Sept. 10.
Prior to the town announcing on Tuesday that Ripley had been hired for the position, in Kentville on Aug. 7 the fire department there had issued a statement saying that Ripley was no longer employed as the chief of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department as of that date. The statement did not disclose that he was taking on the role of the chief of the Yarmouth fire department.
