The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team has recovered a man's body in Great Barren Lake.  The search for the missing swimmer, 52-year-old Sean Armstrong of Belleville, began the afternoon of Sept. 1 after RCMP received a 911 call regarding a swimmer in distress.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The RCMP issued a news release shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2 saying the man's body had been recovered.

The RCMP in Yarmouth had been searching for a man who went swimming  Saturday and did not return.  At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 1, Yarmouth Rural RCMP responded to a 911 call indicating a man had gone swimming in Great Barren Lake at Owl Head Island and experienced some distress.  

Members of the RCMP, with assistance from local fire departments, had arrived at the lake and immediately began a search of the area. The RCMP helicopter conducted an aerial search of the water and shoreline.  The Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue conducted a shoreline search and the RCMP Underwater Recovery team joined in the search at noon in an effort to locate the man.
