Hundreds of people turned out for a Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph on Main Street Sunday morning.

The service is one of two held in the town of Yarmouth.

The downtown service at the cenotaph has grown considerably since the main service moved to the indoor venue at the Mariners Centre.

Main Street was blocked off to vehicular traffiic and the crowd lined the perimeter of the cenotaph grounds.

Wreaths were placed during the ceremony, starting with the one for veterans that was laid by Cecil Roy, the event's  organizer. This service was started sseveral years ago when George Cottreau, now deceased, kept holding a service at the cenotaph after the main service had moved to the Mariners Centre.

The cenotaph had been the site of Remembrance Day services for decades when war veterans and others would march along Main Strreet to the service.

At the conclusion of the Mariners Centre service Legion officials bring the wreaths from the indoor service to the cenotaph.
