On Friday, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, in a conference call with the LFA 34 Advisory Committee, made the call to postpone the start of the season for Lobster Fishing Area 34 until Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 6 a.m.
"The Environment Canada models are showing really bad conditions . . . gale force winds," said Fisheries and Oceans area manager Frank Quinn.
Monday, Nov. 26 was to have been the start of the season with dumping day – the day that fishermen bring their traps out to the fishing grounds.
All search and rescue resources that had been slated to be in place on Monday will be in place on Tuesday.
