What will become of the Municipality of Argyle’s administration building in Tusket?

It’s a question the municipality is considering, and it could take awhile, Argyle councillors were told during their regular meeting of March 11.

“The process can be quite lengthy,” said Alain Muise, the municipality’s chief administrative officer.

He added that the municipality also wants to engage the community on the matter.

Accessibility is the main issue with the facility, which opened in or around 1949 and was used as an elementary school.

It became available to the municipality as its administrative home in 1976.

Whether to pursue a retrofit project or to go with new construction and how much the different options would cost are among the things the municipality will look into as it works towards deciding the fate of its administrative headquarters.

The present building is certainly not handicapped-friendly and that is a major concern with our growing ageing population.
