The elderly male driver of a vehicle was not injured when his vehicle caught fire as he was traveling through Tusket on Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the Feb. 16 fire, which occurred on Highway 308 around the vicinity of the Natural Resources office. When they arrived the vehicle was fully engulfed. A member of the Eel Brook fire department called it a stubborn fire that took firefighters about an hour and over 800 gallons of water to put out.
According to the rural detachment of the RCMP, the driver noticed there was smoke coming out of the stick shift and immediately exited the vehicle. Moments afterwards the vehicle caught on fire.
Paramedics were called to the scene to check on the driver.
“We assessed a male, in his 70s, but he was not injured and did not require transport to the hospital,” said Paul Maynard of Emergency Health Services.
Information on what caused the vehicle to catch on fire was not available.
