A Hants County man said to have defrauded three district health authorities of more than $400,000 will be in court on July 21 to be sentenced on charges of fraud.
Carey Lee Hollett, 42, of Belmont, entered guilty pleas in Windsor provincial court on April 19 to defrauding the Annapolis District Health Authority, the South Shore District Health Authority and the South West Health of sums of money exceeding $5,000.
A pre-sentence report will be prepared for the sentencing hearing.
Hollett was employed as an accounts payable clerk when, late last year, the health authorities reported that more than $400,000 had been stolen from their joint accounts.
Hollett was charged last Nov. 25 with three counts of fraud over $5,000, and a search warrant was executed at the his Belmont Road home.
Following the criminal investigation by the Kentville Police and an internal forensic audit, in January Annapolis Valley Health, South Shore Health and South West Health launched a civil suit against the former employee. Court documents showed the three health authorities are seeking payment of $408,076 from Hollett and his wife.
