In an aim to make the province’s courtrooms safer, the provincial government has announced a $2-million investment for new and upgraded security measures in courthouses in the province.
The investment in 10 courthouses is part of the province's new capital plan to make life better for families. It was announced on Nov. 17.
Justice Minister Ross Landry says the safety and security of people is of paramount importance in the province's courtrooms.
The funding, which will be part of the province’s capital plan included in its spring budget, will be spent on new or replacement closed-circuit cameras, access controls, alarms and other protective measures.
The improvements are being done at courthouses in Amherst, Antigonish, Bridgewater, Digby, Halifax, Kentville, Port Hawkesbury, Sydney, Truro and Yarmouth.
The work slated for the Yarmouth Justice Centre is new closed-circuit cameras and an alarm system.
