A former Yarmouth lawyer will be publicly sworn in as judge of the provincial and family courts of Nova Scotia during a ceremony at the Yarmouth Justice Centre on Friday, Dec. 7.
The swearing in for Tim Landry gets underway at noon.
Judge Landry’s appointment to the bench was announced on Sept. 19 by Nova Scotia's Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Ross Landry (no relation). He has already been presiding on the bench following a private swearing in. Friday’s event is open to the public.
Judge Landry brings 20 years of experience in criminal and family law to the bench. As a member of Yarmouth County's Acadian community, he is bilingual and can conduct proceedings in English or French. He will preside primarily in provincial court in Digby, Comeauville and Annapolis Royal. He replaces the Judge Warren K. Zimmer who has moved to Truro.
Judge Landry attended Dalhousie Law School and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1992. During his years as a lawyer his areas of practice have included family law, personal injury, criminal law, real property, civil litigation and worker’s compensation.
From May 1994 until his appointment in September, Landry was a staff lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid in Yarmouth where he practiced both criminal and family law.
Over the years he has also volunteered with the Pubic Legal Education Society of Nova Scotia and has provided pro bono legal advices to various local community organizations.
