The RCMP Western Traffic Services conducted numerous checkpoints targeting Impaired Driving over the weekend.

Western Traffic Services teamed up with the Digby Chapter of MADD on Friday night, Dec. 14, and conducted a checkpoint near Highway 101 in Conway. Members and volunteers worked together to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.

A male driver in Shelburne County attempted to avoid police. The vehicle was stopped and the driver charged for operating a motor vehicle with no insurance or registration. The driver's vehicle was also seized after he failed a roadside test for consuming alcohol.

Another driver was charged with having open liquor in his vehicle and possession of a small quantity of drugs.

In Yarmouth County, police arrested a male driver on Hardscratch Road after receiving a call from a concerned motorist.

The RCMP are encouraging motorists in the Tri-County area to plan ahead for the holiday season.

The police will also continue to target impaired driving to ensure that drivers on our roadways are sober and educated on the dangers of drinking and driving.

The Western Traffic Services encourage citizens to keep our roads safe by calling 911 if they believe someone is driving while impaired.
