The Yarmouth Red Knights and the Pleasant Valley Lakers are on their way to Burnaby, B.C. this week to defend their respective Over-35 national baseball titles and NovaNewsNow.com is your place for updated results and reports.

The tournament opens Friday, July 30.

Yarmouth opens defence of its 35+ title at 9 a.m. against the Burlington Black 49ers. They play at 2:30 p.m. that same day against the Regina Drifters. The Lakers, meanwhile, open defence of the 50+ title with a game at 2:30 p.m. against the White Rock Legends.

On Saturday, July 30 the Lakers take on the Comox Valley Cubs at 11:30 a.m. and the PoCo Colt 45s at 7 p.m.

The Red Knights play at 2 p.m. against the Tri-City Redhawks and then wrap up round robin play on Sunday, July 31 at 9 a.m. against the Medicine Hat Oilmen. Playoffs continue for the duration of Sunday.

Championship games are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 2. The 50+ tier one title game is at 11:30 a.m. and the 35+ tier one title game is at 2 p.m. All times listed are western standard time.

The Vanguard will be in contact with players from both teams throughout the weekend and will post information and photos on our website as they become available with a full tournament report in the print edition the week after the tournament.

Both Yarmouth and Pleasant Valley captivated area baseball fans young and old alike last year as each marched towards their respective titles in front of hometown crowds. Hundreds of people packed and surround Gateway Park last year for the final game.

In an interview earlier this month, members of both teams said they were feeling good heading into the event. Both teams have added players to their respective rosters from last year that should make them even stronger.
