The Pothier family emerged victorious – for a second consecutive year – from the Festival acadien de Wedgeport’s sixth annual Wedgeport Acadian Families Lob-Ball Tournament.
The Pothier team defeated the LeBlancs by a score of 12 to 2 in front of a large crowd at the École Wedgeport ball park on Sunday, Aug. 5.
The Pothiers were undefeated in all the five games the team played.The LeBlancs had only been defeated by the Pothiers in a round robin game 8 to 4.
The La Coupe Maringouin trophy was presented to the captain of the Pothiers, Jill-Marie (Pothier) Jacquard, by Del Boudreau, representing the sponsors of the tournament, Del Agency Limited and Assumption Life.
Marc LeBlanc, the tournament president, thanked all the players, the volunteers, the public for attending in large numbers and the sponsors.
Debbie Pothier for the women and Jordan Atkins for the men were chosen the most valuable champion team players. They each received a travel bag from Del Agency Limited.
Eight co-ed teams competed in the four-day tournament.
Aside from the Pothier and LeBlanc teams, the Boudreau, Doucet(te), Jacquard and Cottreau teams, along with two mixed teams, also took part. The mixed teams are made up of smaller families.
Maryse Pothier won the women’s home run derby for a third time and Jeff Fitzgerald for the men.
