The Summerside Western Capitals edged the Yarmouth Mariners 3-2 on Sunday, Nov. 18, in Summerside.

Jonathan Aubertin led the Western Capitals with 2 goals while Mitchell Maynard added 2 assists.

Jonathan Aubertin opened the scoring at 8:43 to give the Western Capitals a 1-0 lead. Josh Desmond (Jared Hicks, powerplay) scored at 9:53 to tie the game at 1-1 after the first period.

Aubertin scored again at 12:48 in the second to regain the lead for Summerside at 2-1. Christopher Caissy (game winner) scored at 14:02 to extend the lead to 3-1. Colin Campbell (Zack Henry, Rodney Mahoney) scored at 17:31 to cut the lead to 3-2 after the second period.

There was no third period scoring.

Summerside went 0 for 4 on the powerplay while Yarmouth went 1 for 5.

Jacob Riley stopped 22 of 24 shots for the win while Travis Wilkins stopped 24 of 27 shots in the loss.

With wins against Truro on Nov. 17 and Metro on Nov. 16, the Mariners still sit in second place in the Eastlink Division with 33 points, which accounts for 16 wins and five losses. Truro sits in first place with 35 points with its record of 17 wins and 3 losses.

After playing four games last week this week the Mariners have a lighter schedule with just one home game on Saturday, Nov. 24. Woodstock, which has dominated the Meek Division in past seasons, sits in fourth place in the division this season with 24 points, representing 11 wins and seven losses.
