The Yarmouth Mariners defeated the Woodstock Slammers 5-2 Saturday night, Dec. 15, in Yarmouth.

Josh Desmond led the Mariners with 3 goals and 1 assist while Jared Hicks added 3 assists.

Matt Tomah (Connor Donaghey, Morgan Messenger) opened the scoring at 2:44 to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Desmond (Connor Rogers, Jared Hicks) scored at 7:15 to extend the lead to 2-0 after the first period.

Morgan Messenger (Desmond, Donaghey) scored the game winner at 6:28 to increase the lead to 3-0. Robbie DeFulvils (powerplay) scored at 13:40 to get the Slammers on the scoreboard at 3-1. Desmond (Colin Campbell, Hicks) scored at 19:53 to increase the lead to 4-1 after the second period. Desmond (Campbell, Hicks) scored his third goal on the powerplay at 3:27 to widen the lead to 5-1. Evan Carmody (powerplay) rounded out the scoring at 17:51 to make the score 5-2.

Yarmouth went 1 for 4 on the powerplay while Woodstock went 2 for 7.

Travis Wilkins stopped 26 of 28 shots for the win while Simon-Pier Chamberland stopped 25 of 30 shots in the loss.

The Mariners and the Truro Bearcats still both had the same number of points after Saturday's games: both teams have 45 points. The Bearcats defeated Bridgewater 2-1 on Saturday evening and sit ahead of the Mariners in first place in the Eastlink Division because of their win-loss record.
