The Yarmouth Atom A Scotia Garden Mariners won the bronze medal at the Acadia Christmas tournament Dec. 28-29, defeating the host team 7-1 for the bronze and coming home with a tournament record of three wins and one loss.

Yanick Cottreau and Nolan MacDonald each had a pair of goals in the bronze medal game. Also scoring were Max Nickerson, Isaac Moore and Christian d’Entremont. Charlie Banks and Liam White shared the win in net. MacDonald was the game MVP.

Yarmouth had won both of its games on the first day of the tournament. In its first game Yarmouth shut out Acadia 5-0. Goal scorers were Christian d’Entremont (2), JJ MacPhee, Donovan Mullen and Yanick Cottreau. Liam White was in net for the shut out. D’Entremont was the game MVP.

Yarmouth then defeated Clare 6-1. JJ MacPhee had a hat-trick. Also scoring were Christian d’Entremont (2) and Issac Moore. Charlie Banks had the win in net. MacPhee was the game MVP.

A win or a tie in their third round robin game would have put Yarmouth into the gold medal match. Yarmouth fell behind South Shore 2-0 in the first two periods, but tied it up in the third period with Yarmouth’s tying goal coming with 2:53 remaining. South Shore pulled its goalie in the final minute for the extra attacker and scored the winning goal with 28.1 seconds left in the game. Yanick Cottreau had both of Yarmouth’s goals and was the game MVP.

Also contributing assists on goals throughout the tournament for Yarmouth were Justin Surette (6), Max Nickerson (4), Isaac Moore (3), Nolan MacDonald (3), Yanick Cottreau (2), Christian d’Entremont (2), Caelen Wallace (2), Denver d’Entremont (2), Brenna Verran (2), JJ MacPhee, Ryan Warner, Donovan Mullen and Gavin O’Connell.

The next tournament the Atom A Mariners will compete in is the Western Valley tournament Jan. 18-20.
