The Yarmouth Mariners came back in the third period to tie the game, but fell to the Dieppe Commandos 4-3 in overtime on the road on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Alex Snow opened the scoring for Dieppe at 4:45 to give the Commandos a 1-0 lead. Kyle Campbell (Josh Desmond, Colin Campbell) scored on the powerplay at 9:24 to tie the game at 1-1 after the first period.

Zach Cahill scored twice in the second period to extend Dieppe’s lead to 3-1.

In the third period Jon Johannesson (unassisted) scored at 4:08 to cut the lead to 3-2. Desmond (Kyle Campbell) scored shorthanded at 7:18 to even the score at 3-3 and force extra time. In overtime, Robbie Graham scored the game winner for Dieppe at 3:12.

Dieppe went 0 for 3 on the powerplay while Yarmouth went 1 for 9.

Connor Wilkinson stopped 38 of 41 shots for the win while Travis Wilkins stopped 16 of 20 shots in the loss.

Yarmouth’s Saturday game versus Summerside was one of many MHL casualties from the blizzard on the weekend. That game will be played later in February.

Yarmouth still came out of the weekend in first place in the Eastlink Division with 65 points, which represents a record of 31 wins and 8 losses.

Truro sits in second place with 65 points (29 wins and 9 losses) and Amherst sits in third with 61 points (28 wins and 9 losses).  Amherst defeated Truro 3-2 in shootout on Sunday. Both teams had each scored a goal in the first and second periods. There was no third period scoring.

Meanwhile in the Eastlink Division Pictou sits in fourth place with 51 points and Bridgewater and Metro are a distant 5th and 6th respectively in the division with 19 points and 9 points.
